Description
This black and white photograph captures a suspended moment in the heart of a solemn interior. The gaze immediately goes to a man in liturgical attire. His upright posture imposes a deep calm. Beside him, anonymous silhouettes are active, creating a contrast between the stability of the clergy and the movement of everyday life.
The framing plays with reflections. Two mirrors frame the scene, multiplying perspectives and enriching the composition. These mirror plays bring a narrative dimension to the image. The floor, covered with a rug with complex patterns, anchors the scene in a setting rich with history.
The artist here explores the banality of the sacred. He captures the reality of an ordinary life within an institutional setting. The light highlights the textures of the fabrics and the rigor of the architectural lines. This high-definition print accurately reproduces the shades of gray and the finesse of the details. The image bears witness to an attentive observation of British society in 1990.
