John Kenny's monochromatic portrait captures a dignified elderly pilgrim in Varanasi.

Kashi is a man of striking demeanour. His flowing white beard and hair frame a kind face, embodying wisdom and serenity. The texture of his hair contrasts with the smoothness of his skin, while his intense gaze projects depth and introspection. The dark attire blends seamlessly with the black background, drawing attention to his expressive features.

The intricate facial marking add an element of mystery and identity. The play of light and shadow enhances the dimensionality and substance of the subject. This captivating photograph not only portrays a distinct individual but also tells a story of cultural richness and profound life experience, inviting viewers to delve deeper into the man’s narrative and heritage.

John Kenny’s black and white photographic portraits are taken on location in some of the remotest corners of Africa and India. All shot with natural light and with the subjects in their day to day attire they reveal the pride and strength inherent in tradional ways of life.

The C-type prints are mounted with an acrylic face mount giving them a 3-dimensional appearance and a very contemporary feel.
