Description
The Last Huntsman was photographed on Exmoor, Devon at a meet of the Devon and Somerset Staghounds in 1989. The deer of Exmoor have been hunted since Norman times, when Exmoor was declared a Royal Forest. In 1803 the "North Devon Staghounds" became a subscription pack. In 1824/5 30 couples of hounds, the last of the true staghounds, were sold to a baron in Germany. Today, the Devon and Somerset is one of three staghounds packs in the UK, the others being the Quantock Staghounds and the Tiverton Staghounds.
Presentation
Ian Bradshaw is an international photographer, who moves between Pennsylvania, New York and London. Born in 1943, in Salisbury, he obtained the American citizenship. A career in editing appends itself to photography.
One of his photos belongs to the visual culture, and captures a historical moment. He shot his first streaker in Australia in 1974, during a rugby match between France and England, this was published in Life and People magazine.
