Presentation
Jenna Gribbon draws inspiration for her paintings from her memories, modern life, and art history. Her syncretic canvases draw inspiration from a variety of historical periods in painting: figures amusing themselves in a sylvan setting recall Fragonard's fêtes galantes; quickly painted interiors recall Mary Cassatt's hurried backgrounds; subtly distorted architectural features recall Karen Kilimnik's carefree depictions.
Techniques & mediums:
Gribbon's paint application veers from the technically accomplished to the purposefully sloppy, freely drawing inspiration from various representational movements and techniques. Quick, impressionistic strokes frequently abut minutely rendered details, highlighting the artist's interest in combining various pictorial techniques into a single canvas.
