A new chapter opens... after the LOADING miniature bust published in 2021, the ERROR 404 bust continues the collection ...
This new bust is taken from the UPDATE series presented last October in the public space in the heart of Paris in XXL format by Nicolas Couturieux.
This new Error 404 miniature edition lets you bring this wonderful adventure into your home and keep a tangible record of it. The creation of each of the busts follows the same principle: a confrontation between the aesthetic codes of classical statuary and a set of terms borrowed from digital culture, written in capital letters and crossed out with a line. This juxtaposition of two eras and two modes of representation, one material, the other immaterial, invites us to measure the evolution of techniques. This series of busts allows us to grasp the architecture of contemporary power: from its staging in the classical age through statuary and urban planning, it is organized today in the form of hypertext, keywords, computer codes and algorithms.
Presentation
Rero was born in 1983. Rero questions art and its codes as well as the notions of image and intellectual property through an acronym that appears regularly in his works : WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). His research about the "denial of the image" is best defined as provocative and self-deprecating.
Strongly influenced by philosophy and sociology, he questions the consumer society and the issue of obsolescence, without judging, but giving the viewers the tools to make their own judgements. The enigmatic corssed out messages are his signature.
