Description
This captivating artwork presents an enigmatic scene in a forest densely filled with ferns and stripped trees. In the foreground, a tree trunk is surrounded by ferns, sheltering fantastic creatures with mischievous expressions and sinuous forms, evoking a fusion of nature with imaginary elements. The background reveals a forest with bare branches, creating an atmosphere that is both mysterious and captivating. The artist uses a subtle interplay of lines and textures to bring this composition to life, creating a striking contrast between the precise details of the plants and the abstraction of the creatures. The monochromatic palette adds dramatic depth to the work, emphasizing its dreamlike and wondrous character. This painting pushes the viewer to explore the boundaries between reality and dream, inviting reflection on the harmonious coexistence of nature and imagination.
Presentation
Didier Hamey was born in 1962 in Dunkirk where he grew up. He likes to cite his origins and one cannot help thinking, seeing his work, of the moment of madness that takes hold of this city during "Carnival", which he never misses.
His workshop is now in Saou in the Drôme where he lives.
He exhibits in several galleries in France and abroad.
His work appears in many private and public collections: the National Fund for Contemporary Art, the National Library, the Gravelines Engraving Museum.
He has just made a beautiful retrospective exhibition of his engraved work at the Museum of Print in Gravelines and a residency at the Casa de Velasquez in Madrid.
