Description
Lionel Vivier works directly on an antique tapestry: over the original scene, he embroiders red shapes and lines that disrupt the way we read it. Europa to Europa sets two eras in dialogue, the classical décor and a contemporary gesture.
For nearly twenty years, Lionel Vivier has worn many hats (art director, curator, publisher, artist), questioning the role and future of the image in art, media, fashion and everyday life. By intervening on antique tapestries, he brings classical imagery and a contemporary gesture face to face.
Unique piece, 2024. Monochrome embroidery on an antique tapestry, made in the VANGART workshop in Lyon, which holds the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label. 90 × 130 cm, 92 × 132 × 4 cm framed.
Presentation
Through the various roles he has occupied in a radical and sensitive manner for nearly 20 years - artistic director, curator, dry stone waller, publisher, artist - Lionel Vivier examines the role and future of the image in art, the media, fashion and everyday life.
