Description

"What I'm Thinking" by Khody is a striking mixed-media conceptual self-portrait that masterfully blends portraiture with graphic, almost "stream-of-consciousness" text and illustration. The work is presented within a dark, rustic wooden frame, enhancing its raw and introspective feel.

Visual Analysis: The central image is a black-and-white (or sepia-toned) photograph of a man. His head is entirely encased in a tight fishnet stocking, and his eyes are closed. He presses his hands to his face and mouth, a pose suggesting either intense contemplation, distress, or a forced silence. The fishnet creates a distinct grid pattern over his features, symbolizing a mental or physical confinement.

The "Thoughts" (Textual and Symbolic Overlay): The area surrounding the man's head is filled with layers of handwritten script and small, simple drawings (stars, hearts). This overlay is not just decorative; it represents the man's internal monologue, the "thoughts" that are trapped within.

The original background text is in Italian, featuring phrases such as (Light in shadow), (Black silences), (The black scream), (Crossed dreams), and (The silent scream).

Notably, this version of the artwork features two distinct new blocks of poetry, positioned on the left and right sides, which have been integrated in a flawless handwriting style.

The New Poetry Layers:

English Poetry (Left Side):

French Poetry (Right Side):

Meaning: The title, "What I'm Thinking," is perfectly illustrated by this composition. The complex web of words (in three languages—Italian, English, and French) and simple symbols reflects the overwhelming and often chaotic nature of a mind trapped in thought. The fishnet reinforces this theme of containment, suggesting that the figure is both prisoner to, and defined by, this dense forest of words and emotions. It is a powerful exploration of anxiety, self-confinement, and the difficulty of verbalizing our deepest mental states. The "Khody" signature is clearly visible in the bottom-right corner.
