Description
The image captures a suspended moment. A family navigates on calm water. The black and white of an old photograph anchors the scene in nostalgia. The ink line redraws the contours and shadows.
The graphic design asserts itself through the superposition of geometric shapes. Washes of yellow and turquoise blue fragment the space. A solar circle dominates the composition.
The contrast between memory and color creates a visual dialogue. The precision of the screen printing brings a modern sharpness to this fragment of memory. The chromatic balance transforms an anonymous snapshot into a contemporary portrait.
The composition plays on transparency and light. The reflections of the passengers in the water mingle with the colored areas. This 2026 creation explores the trace of time through a rigorous printing technique.
Presentation
Valérie Betoulaud, graduated in visual communication of applied arts, began her career as artistic director in communication, then worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for the press, design agencies as well as style offices in decoration. In recent years, she has been showing her work in contemporary art fairs and several galleries.
"From forgotten photos, witnesses of anonymous lives, I let myself be guided by these fragments of memory, moments of happiness shared by the water, under the summer sun, and try to find reflections of life there. . I redraw in Indian ink, the shadow and the light and add color to these black and white images, blurry, erased by time. Stories are told, families come together, thus these portraits are born. "
