Description
The image captures a suspended moment. Two silhouettes plunge into a sky of solar yellow. The contrast is sharp. The deep black of the bodies stands out against this luminous disc.
The gaze descends to mineral forms. Dark rocks frame a expanse of agitated water. The line is precise. The screen printing technique allows for flat areas and graphic textures.
The work relies on memory. The artist is inspired by old photographs to recreate scenes of daily life. She transforms anonymous memories into modern compositions.
The composition plays on the balance between the lightness of the jump and the heaviness of the stone. Navy blue opposes the bright yellow. This 2024 work explores the nostalgia of holidays and the simplicity of shared pleasures. The visual rendering evokes a revisited vintage poster with a contemporary approach. The whole stabilizes on a dark sea horizon.
Presentation
Valérie Betoulaud, graduated in visual communication of applied arts, began her career as artistic director in communication, then worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for the press, design agencies as well as style offices in decoration. In recent years, she has been showing her work in contemporary art fairs and several galleries.
"From forgotten photos, witnesses of anonymous lives, I let myself be guided by these fragments of memory, moments of happiness shared by the water, under the summer sun, and try to find reflections of life there. . I redraw in Indian ink, the shadow and the light and add color to these black and white images, blurry, erased by time. Stories are told, families come together, thus these portraits are born. "
