Description
A scene of daily life sets up in front of a wine cellar storefront. A woman, modern and elegant silhouette, enjoys a moment of calm. She is reading a book attentively, seated at a terrace table. The setting evokes the sweetness of living and the art of taking one's time.
The line is precise. The colors are soft and harmonious. The attention paid to the patterns of the clothing and the textures highlights rigorous technical know-how. The composition plays on the transparency of the display window, revealing bottles and inscriptions related to the terroir of Saint-Émilion.
The contrast between the gray stone of the paving and the warm tones of the facade brings visual balance. Autumnal touches border the frame, adding a poetic note to the whole. This figurative creation captures the essence of a still voyage.
The image is created via a drypoint on fine art paper. This technique guarantees precision of details and exemplary retention of the pigments.
Presentation
Sophie Griotto was born in 1975 in Alès. She studied applied arts in Nîmes and then in Toulouse before moving to Paris where she worked for a large advertising agency. In 1988, she started working as a freelancer, as a storyboarder, which led her to make films for prestigious houses such as Dior or Jean-Paul Gaultier. She then decided to turn to illustration in 2003.
Her illustrations are inspired by the world of fashion, the world of media, the world of childhood and poetry. Women play a main role in her creations, she is represented in all her modernity.
Sophie Griotto uses a lot of fabric, which allows her to highlight the colors and patterns.
In 2014, Sophie Griotto was entrusted with the decoration of a Parisian hotel located at the rue de la Paix.
The illustrator is part of the art book "100 Illustrators" as well as in "Illustration now, Fashion" by Taschen.
