Description
The gaze meets here a rigorous and stripped-down geometric composition.
The contrast immediately establishes between an acid green and a deep blue.
Dark lines cut the space with precision.
They structure the surface into distinct, almost architectural zones.
The work on color creates immediate visual depth.
The balance rests on the opposition between solid masses and suggested voids.
This minimalist aesthetic evokes a certain graphic modernity.
The rendering is sharp, without flourish.
The technical execution ensures a perfect saturation of the pigments.
This creation was made in 2015.
It uses the aquatint technique on paper.
Presentation
Mathuias Malling-Mortensen is a Danish artist born in 1980. After studies at the "Danish School of Media and Journalism" he experimented with numerous techniques. He is a visual artist intrigued by the forms, figures, and compositions he encounters. His style is intuitive and minimalist and non-figurative.
The artist Mortensen is multidisciplinary, he paints and creates prints using multiple techniques.
The works presented by the Estampe are original engravings
In his works, Mortensen emphasizes the dynamics when adding empty space to a canvas, and the materiality found between space and non-space. He constantly explores the interaction between color, light, and shadow in his practice. In his work, he constantly makes us discover new bases of spatiality, textures, forms, and poetry.
