Description
The line asserts itself with a raw freedom. The gaze circulates between areas of shadow and white spaces. The aquatint brings a dull depth. It creates brown masses that float on the paper.
The gesture is quick. It manifests itself through broken lines and nervous curves. The drypoint comes to etch the surface with precision. It imposes a jerky rhythm in the center of the composition.
The contrast plays on the shade of sepia. The forms seem to be born of controlled improvisation. Each graphic mark dialogues with the surrounding void.
The balance rests on the opposition between the density of the wash and the finesse of the black line. This abstract composition explores the tension between the full and the empty.
The print dates from 2010. It combines two engraving techniques for a clean graphic rendering.
Presentation
Alain Grosajt was born in 1943, in Paris. He lives and works in Monteux in the Vaucluse.
Alain Grosajt entered painting with a full stride with Twombly and Tapiès as guides. Tireless worker, he covers the canvas with hundreds of signs, creating his own writing, inventing his memory, patching up the painful 20th century with painting. Nourished by his inner journey, but also by the encounter with other landscapes – in Oceania, in the Southwestern United States, in Vietnam or even more recently in Brazil – his art stands on the thread of a singular destiny. Images and sensations intertwine in the painter's mind who traces the course of his thought on the canvas.
