Original screenprint by MISS. TIC, Signed and numbered 4/4 by the artist. Exceptional large format 1 m x 1m. Original certificate of authenticity signed by MISS.TIC. Edition year 2017.
The black line stands out with sharpness on an immaculate white background. The female silhouette asserts itself with graphic elegance. The gaze is direct. It challenges the viewer with a serene assurance. This composition plays on stark contrasts to emphasize the precision of the contours.
The handwritten text occupies the space with a rhythmic arrangement. The text poses an existential question. It transforms the portrait into a reflection on sharing and intimacy. The red calligraphy brings a subtle chromatic nuance. It guides the eye towards the bottom of the composition.
The style borrows from the codes of comic books and pop art. The management of voids and fills creates a rigorous visual balance. The signature integrates naturally into the whole. The whole exudes immediate clarity. The subject is represented in profile, the bust slightly turned towards the front. The black clothing merges with the shadow to accentuate the natural curve of the body.
Miss.Tic, born on February 20, 1956, in Paris, was a pioneering French poet and visual artist, renowned for her stenciled street art that graced the walls of Paris for decades. She passed away on May 22, 2022, but her work, once considered rebellious and illegal, has since gained international recognition and is now featured in major institutions like the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Fonds Municipal d'Art Contemporain in Paris. Miss.Tic's work has been celebrated in a retrospective exhibition in Singapore, supported by the French Embassy, further solidifying her legacy.
In the 1980s, amid the rise of urban art, Miss.Tic transformed the streets of Paris into her artistic canvas, particularly in the Butte aux Cailles neighborhood (13th arrondissement). Her public art debut took place in 1985 at Agnès b's Galerie du Jour, where her unique stencils began to take shape. Influenced by her background in graphic design and theatre set design, Miss.Tic's art began to reflect her interest in the eternal feminine and the dynamics of power, often featuring striking female figures paired with thought-provoking slogans.
The 1990s brought both challenges and recognition for Miss.Tic. The rise of street art and tagging culture led to police confrontations, including a notable arrest in 1997 after a work in the Marais district. Despite facing repression, Miss.Tic's bold art gained acceptance in prestigious institutions and collaborated with major fashion brands like Longchamp, Kenzo, and Louis Vuitton, elevating her status in the contemporary art world.
Throughout her career, Miss.Tic participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in France and internationally, contributing to the institutional recognition of her work. Her creations are now held in major public and private collections, notably at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Fonds Municipal d'Art Contemporain of the City of Paris.
Her work played a significant role in establishing stencil art as a major medium of contemporary urban art. Through her unique combination of poetry, humour, political engagement and street art aesthetics, Miss.Tic remains an essential figure in urban art, stencil art, French contemporary art and feminist art, continuing to influence many artists around the world.
