Tamara de Lempicka's art captures the elegance, sensuality and modern spirit of Art Deco. Her distinctive visual language combines sculptural forms, precise contours and luminous colour, bringing classical poise to the glamour of the modern age. Whether depicting a figure, a portrait or a still life, her compositions possess an unmistakable clarity and commanding presence.
This work belongs to the posthumous, estate-authorized serigraph editions published by DK Art Publishing, Inc., Los Angeles, and printed by Kolibri Art Studio, Torrance, California. Translating Lempicka's painted compositions into the medium of screenprinting, these editions convey the rich colour and sharply defined forms characteristic of her imagery.
Serigraphy is a meticulous printing process in which colours are applied through separate screens in successive layers. Each impression is hand-pulled using water-based inks on 100% acid-free archival museum board. This layered method gives the image a distinctive material presence, particularly suited to Lempicka's bold contrasts and carefully modelled surfaces.
The accompanying certificate of authenticity bears the Tamara de Lempicka Estate crest and the signature of her daughter, Baroness Kizette de Lempicka. Together, the craftsmanship of the printing and the documented estate connection offer collectors an opportunity to enjoy Lempicka's imagery through a carefully produced limited edition.
Presentation
Born in 1898, Tamara de Lempicka was a Polish painter. She is best known for her contribution to the Art Deco style.
Lempicka's career was marked by two distinct successful periods. Celebrated in Europe in the 1920s, her work became popular again in the late 1960s following the resurgence of Art Deco. Lempicka's œuvre encompassed celebrity and society portraits, alongside some abstract works.
Lempicka died in Mexico in 1980. Ellis Avery's "The Last Nude" is a fictionalized account of her life and relationship with one of her models.
