Description

Blue Fantasy: Mudkip and Eevee Kawaii Abode by Saori Nakamishi offers a serene yet playful chapter in the artist’s exploration of neo-pop emotional landscapes, where childhood icons are transformed into poetic contemporary sculptures. A prominent member of Studio CrazyNoodles founded by Hiro Ando, a defining figure of the Nippon Neo Pop movement, Nakamishi continues through the series Whimsical Plexiworlds and Pokémon Houses: Kawaii Haven her creation of imaginative refuges built from shared pop memories.

Encased within an iridescent plexiglass house, plush figures of Mudkip and Eevee gather inside a luminous blue environment where reflections shift between aquatic calm and dreamlike fantasy. The structure captures and diffuses light, turning the interior into a floating emotional aquarium in which softness, nostalgia, and playful innocence coexist. Around the base, sculpted silhouettes and kawaii phrases carved into the plexiglass create a lively border that merges pop symbolism with personal storytelling, inviting viewers into Nakamishi’s whimsical universe.

Mudkip, associated with water and adaptability, embodies emotional fluidity and gentle resilience, while Eevee, famous for its multiple evolutions, symbolizes potential and the beauty of transformation. Together they form a metaphorical duet reflecting personal growth within protective environments, suggesting that identity evolves while still seeking warmth and belonging. Nakamishi thus converts a playful Pokémon scene into a contemporary allegory of emotional comfort in a rapidly changing world.

For collectors, Blue Fantasy: Mudkip and Eevee Kawaii Abode represents a compelling opportunity to acquire a work combining global pop culture with the refined innovation of contemporary neo-pop sculpture. Integrating softness, humor, and visual sophistication, the artwork brings a calming yet vibrant presence to any collection, offering both emotional resonance and strong artistic identity—an acquisition that speaks equally to nostalgia, design sensibility, and the evolving language of contemporary Japanese art.

Presentation

Saori Nakamishi studied aesthetics and art, after she finished her studies she decided to focus all of her talent on creating original illustrations, highly influenced by Manga. She currently lives and works in Japan. Her work is mainly realistic, yet deeply influenced by manga aesthetics and its topics. In her illustrations, She depicts beautiful and sexy young women, in a Lolita style. Erotic but innocent images of girls, with names like Cherry, Angel, Jewel or Heart surrounded by numerous fantastical creatures or symbols. Saori Nakamishi combines traditional Japanese manga and neo-pop colors in her works. In 2005, she worked with the artist Hiro Ando to create an studio called "Crazynoodles Studio", dedicated to the promotion of young neo-pop artists inspired by Manga and Kitsch. Today the Studio represents 15 artists and distributes their work everywhere around the world, from Paris to Tokyo with a total freedom of expression. Crazynoodles tries to fight against western, somewhat elitist, art.
