Description
Frannie is an elegant figurative bronze sculpture by Nando Kallweit. Standing erect she holds a towel around her waist.
Frannie was made using a lost wax, or Cire Perdue, bronze casting technique. Nando shapes a wax model that is then submerged in ceramic. The ceramic is then placed in a furnace so that the wax melts to leave a cavity. Molten bronze is then poured into the cavity. Once cooled and hardened the ceramic is broken to retrieve the sculpture. To create the rest of the edition Nando makes a silicon mould of the first piece allowing the wax model to be recreated.
Each piece is part of an edition of 25. The edition number is engraved into the base. Nando also hammers his mark into the bronze.
This artwork is an exquisite sculpture that masterfully captures the essence of elegance and poise. Crafted in bronze, it depicts an elongated, abstract female figure standing upright on a square base. The figure is draped in a cloak-like garment, which she holds open with both hands, creating a sense of grandiose presence and refined dignity. What sets this sculpture apart is its minimalist yet evocative approach to form. The artist has employed subtle, elongated lines to emphasize the height and slenderness of the figure, giving it an almost ethereal quality. The faceless head and the smooth contours of the body further abstract the subject, allowing viewers to focus on the fundamental elements of shape and posture. The garment, draped in a manner reminiscent of classical statuary, introduces texture and movement, breaking the otherwise sleek silhouette. The bronze material enhances the sculpture's timeless appeal, with its patinated finish adding depth and a nuanced play of light and shadow. This piece is a testament to the artist's skill in blending abstraction with figurative art, creating a work that is both modern and timeless. It speaks to themes of strength, grace, and the quiet power of presence, making it a captivating centerpiece for any collection.
Presentation
German artist Nando Kallweit produces figurative sculptures and reliefs with aquiline and graceful appeal. After completing engineering school, Kallweit began a successful career as a freelance sculptor. His work has since become coveted for public installations and private collections alike.
Whether viewed in art exhibitions, large-scale installations, or the urban environment, his work is remarkably striking. The interplay between physical object, negative space, and observer creates emotions and enticing poetry that change depending on the context.
Kallweit is inspired by seemingly disparate cultures; the strength of ancient Egyptian sculptures, the dynamic forms of the modern Cubist movement, and an observation of our contemporary existence. Combined with a considerate approach, Kallweit renders archaic materials, such as blackened oak and bronze, with a palpable sensitivity. These forms are varied tirelessly in his creations. His elongated sculptures depict aspirational human figures in a proud stances that are aesthetically pleasing.
Close observation of each piece leads to the discovery of unexpected details in the design which convey an emotional robustness. Kallweit moves continuously while creating his sculptures. He works with an intensity and energy that he must balance with a sensitive and considerate approach.
Kallweit's work is permeated by a longing for the unknown, for the elusive, the divine, and the spiritual.
