This work is made with Douglas & steel.
This work of art, a delicately crafted wooden sculpture, is distinguished by its bold aesthetic and meticulous execution. Its organic and fluid forms seem to be inspired by natural patterns, evoking a symbiosis between matter and life. The finely carved wood displays a series of repetitive and intertwined patterns that create a fascinating play of light and shadow, adding a dimension of depth and movement. The sculpture stands elegantly on a metal base, which gives it stability while providing an interesting contrast between the warmth of the wood and the coldness of the metal. The vertical and undulating lines, which harmoniously meet and separate, suggest an upward force, perhaps an allusion to organic growth or natural flows. This dynamism is accentuated by the way the wood seems to live and breathe, with its sinuous curves that subtly capture and reflect the light. Upon closer inspection, one can admire the sculptor's exceptional craftsmanship: each curve, each incision is made with surgical precision, demonstrating remarkable technical mastery and a deep understanding of the material. The rich and varied texture of the wood, with its natural veins and nuances, reinforces the tactile and sensory aspect of the work. In short, this wooden sculpture is a hymn to natural beauty and craftsmanship. It embodies both the timeless robustness of wood and the organic fluidity of natural forms, offering the viewer a fascinating visual and emotional experience.
Presentation
My universe is deeply inspired by the Neolithic world, the large-scale representations of the first traces of man, the dolmens, the menhir statues or the imposing cairns. Who are these builders, with what techniques and knowledge were they able to create these forms? It is the whole free field left by silence to these questions that is a source of inspiration, dialogue, research. And closer to us, the charm and spirituality of the temples of the 11th and 12th century of Japan.
My sculptures form a constellation of points, like a taut arc that connects us to these unfathomable origins, to nature, to space.
"I like to let myself be guided by impulses. The sculpture is built as I go along. I always try to create transparency, light effects by playing with the black of the wood licked by the flame, the orange gradients of the Douglas pine, the silver reflections of the steel.
Next to my studio, I have created a space of truth. The sculptures thus arranged must give me emotions, sensations, like a magnetic current."
