Description

"Mine" is a captivating sculpture measuring 40x13x13 cm and weighing 2.9 kg, crafted from iron and basalt. The piece features a wire-formed figure clutching something dear to their chest, exuding an intense sense of possession and protectiveness. The intricately woven iron strands create a striking contrast with the sturdy basalt base, symbolizing the tension between vulnerability and strength. The sculpture evokes deep emotions of attachment, ownership, and the human desire to hold onto what we treasure most. "Mine" is a powerful and evocative artwork that resonates with themes of personal connection and the complexities of human emotion.
Presentation
Karen Axikyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia, in 1963. He has always loved art and lives there. At different periods of his life, Karen Axikyan was interested in different spheres of art. First he drew oil paintings, then he started painting beautiful batik scarves, and then he moved on to the amazing world of sculptures.
In short, he is interested in everything related to art. For the past 15 years, he has been creating metal sculptures. It is said that he has a huge zoo with his different and wild animals. As Karen Axikyans says, he does not decide which animal what type of emotion the sculpture should have, he decides its emotion. Without having any cultural education, he was always in art, the only education he received was the artist who was his neighbor and he generally spent his time following the artists' works.
Karen Axikyan says metal is an instrument through which she can convey her emotional states. When creating a sculpture, her soul seems to be cleansed. Her latest collection is called "Little World" because the sculptures are so small they can fit in the palm of her hand.
