La nasse, 2024

Pascal Billard

This sculptural masterpiece presents a bold fusion of geometric forms and refined symbols that captivate the viewer with its complex simplicity. The sculpture, primarily in white ceramic, stands out for its robust structure and clean lines. The base, shaped like an inverted half-moon, provides visual stability while paradoxically evoking a sense of lightness. Resting on this base is a rectangular structure adorned with four carefully sculpted stars, adding a symbolic and mysterious dimension to the piece. Above, a central element extends on both sides, resembling a capsule or projectile, framed by a series of precisely arranged wooden slats. This arrangement creates a dynamic visual tension between materials—the coolness of the ceramic and the warmth of the wood—while inviting reflection on themes of passage, confinement, or protection. The piece strikes a harmonious balance between modernity and tradition, suggesting a dialogue between artisanal past and contemporary concepts. It commands a quiet yet powerfully evocative presence, stimulating a multitude of personal interpretations.
