Description
Danseuse “Elancée" II is a sculpture by French artist Yann Guillon.
Guillon's ongoing study of the human form shines in his small acrobats and dancers series. Here, he uses the athletic bodies of dancers and gymnasts as a way to depart from strict anatomical accuracy, focusing instead on expressive gestures and raw forms. This approach allows him to capture spontaneity and the dynamic energy within each figure.
The human body remains central to Guillon's work, especially through figures in motion. In his depictions of athletes and dancers, he emphasizes movement and tension, bringing forth a sense of mystery and elegance. His use of direct carving and ventures into abstraction offer him a pathway to explore new forms of expression in sculpture.
Presentation
Of Breton origin, Yann Guillon feels energy. Very early on he found in the Greek torsos of the Louvre Museum this strength which he sought and pushed. The torsos will then invade his creation and become his vector of expression. Its torsos are simplified to become abstract like standing stones. He has been traveling for over 30 years now through the treatment of the figure. Without ever losing the link between man and nature, he tries to extract the vital energy from each figure in all its states.
