Description
The ceramic sculpture Galaxy is a fascinating work of art that plays with the tension between opposites: front and back, figuration and abstraction, the earthly and the cosmic. Even the name "Galaxy" alludes to vastness, space, and the infinite--themes that subtly echo in the form and surface of the sculpture.
Viewed from the front, Galaxy reveals a clear, figurative shape. The front resembles a human silhouette--calm, upright, and centered. Finely modeled details such as suggested facial features or the contours of the body give the sculpture a familiar presence. It evokes the impression of a resting figure, almost meditative, gazing silently at the viewer while revealing an inner depth,
However, as soon as one moves around the sculpture, a completely different language unfolds: the back departs from figurative representation and transitions into an abstract visual vocabulary. Organic structures, and an expressive, almost chaotic surface texture dominate here. As if molded from primal matter, shaped and drawn forth from formless chaos into clear and graceful contours.
Galaxy thrives on contrast--and on the dialogue between opposites. The sculpture invites the viewer to move, to shift perspectives, to reflect on the relationship between form and meaning. It is an invitation to recognize the familiar in the unfamiliar--and vice versa. Like a galaxy itself, it is more than the sum of its parts: a fragile balance between order and chaos, between humanity and the cosmos.
