Description
This captivating sculpture depicts a rower in action, carved from a granite paving stone on a Marseille sidewalk. The work is distinguished by its clean forms and minimalist aesthetic, emphasizing movement and fluidity. The figure, though lacking detailed facial features, embodies a calm intensity and quiet determination. The curved lines of the body and oar subtly contrast with the robust angle of the boat. The polished granite evokes a sense of serenity and permanence. This choice of material and style emphasizes the harmony between humans and nature, suggesting an introspective quest through maritime travel. The work, both simple and deeply expressive, questions the viewer about the theme of personal journey and self-exploration.
Presentation
Antoine Savigneux's sculptures exude a striking timelessness, capturing scenes from life where emotion is anchored in stone. Self-taught, he shapes stone with patience and instinct. Each block becomes a terrain of exploration where he engages in a dialogue with the rock, exploring the limits of the material to extract a story, a fragment of reality. His work, halfway between brute force and sensitivity, invites profound contemplation, where the echo of the past meets the modernity of the artistic gesture.
