Description
This artwork is a ceramic sculpture with an organic and fluid design. Its form is reminiscent of a seed or bulb, embodying the harmony between nature and art. The piece's smooth, matte surface highlights the subtle earthy hue that complements the object's elegant simplicity. The curved, pointed apex appears to emerge gently, adding a dynamic dimension and evoking growth. Set on a light wood base, the piece creates a visual contrast that accentuates the purity of the lines and the balance of the composition. This work invites serene contemplation, while celebrating minimalist beauty and contemporary aesthetics. The piece is distinguished by its ability to transform a raw material into a poetic and captivating form.
Presentation
Audrey Vo Van is a French sculptor and ceramist of Franco-Vietnamese heritage who explores the memory of inner landscapes through raw materials. After more than a decade in biomedical research, she left the world of scientific protocols for an intuitive, hands-on practice, finding a new language in clay—a language of the essential and the living.
Based in Prades-le-Lez, in the south of France, she draws inspiration from the eroded forms of nature and the contrasts between mineral and plant life. Her stoneware, often left bare, creates sensory landscapes that interact with light and shadows.
Her sculptural approach combines slow techniques (coiling, slab-building, kurinuki) with active contemplation. Her works, at the crossroads of a mural, a sculptural vase, and a free form, confront opposing tensions: the raw and the refined, the full and the empty, the feminine and the mineral. Each piece is unique, like a fragment of silence placed in space, creating a meditative and tactile universe.
