Description
This captivating work is a ceramic bas-relief, displaying a striking contrast between smooth and rough surfaces. Divided into asymmetrical sections, it presents a mosaic of white geometric shapes, evoking an abstract landscape. The upper section is distinguished by its uniform smoothness, while the lower section is composed of engraved textures, similar to fractured geological strata. This juxtaposition creates an intriguing visual dynamic, where the artist plays with light and shadow to accentuate depth. The black frame adds focus to the whole, highlighting the elegance and restraint of the work. The open interpretation offered by this creation stimulates the imagination, transporting the viewer to a world that is both familiar and mysterious. A bold fusion of minimalism and complexity, this work testifies to remarkable technical mastery and a unique artistic vision.
Presentation
Audrey Vo Van is a French sculptor and ceramist of Franco-Vietnamese heritage who explores the memory of inner landscapes through raw materials. After more than a decade in biomedical research, she left the world of scientific protocols for an intuitive, hands-on practice, finding a new language in clay—a language of the essential and the living.
Based in Prades-le-Lez, in the south of France, she draws inspiration from the eroded forms of nature and the contrasts between mineral and plant life. Her stoneware, often left bare, creates sensory landscapes that interact with light and shadows.
Her sculptural approach combines slow techniques (coiling, slab-building, kurinuki) with active contemplation. Her works, at the crossroads of a mural, a sculptural vase, and a free form, confront opposing tensions: the raw and the refined, the full and the empty, the feminine and the mineral. Each piece is unique, like a fragment of silence placed in space, creating a meditative and tactile universe.
