Thierry Martenon

Thierry Martenon (born in 1967) is a renowned French sculptor and a master of wood craftsmanship. Originally trained as a cabinetmaker, he is a self-taught artist who has pushed the boundaries of wood sculpture, blending tradition with contemporary aesthetics.

Recently Martenon continues to expand his artistic reach, participating in international exhibitions and collaborating with architects, designers, and collectors to create bespoke sculptural installations. His recent works highlight an even greater refinement in technique, pushing the boundaries of wood as a medium for contemporary art.

Martenon employs the technique of direct carving, allowing the raw beauty of the wood to guide his creative process. His mastery of various wood essences, combined with his expertise in texture, color, and patina, enables him to produce sculptures that are both organic and profoundly modern. Each piece reflects a deep understanding of the material, showcasing the natural elegance of trees through minimalist yet powerful forms.

His minimalist approach results in pieces of remarkable purity, where every curve and line enhances the wood's natural essence. Through his work, he transforms solid, heavy materials into fluid, almost weightless sculptures, achieving a rare harmony between nature and contemporary art.
