Presentation
In his works, which include both paintings and paper-cut sculptures, Katsumi Hayakawa channels the essence of urban landscapes and architectural planning. He meticulously crafts objects using cubes and squares, reminiscent of skyscrapers and city plans.
The interaction of lines and colors within these structures forms complex and dynamic patterns, which echo the frenetic rhythms of urban life.
Drawing inspiration from modernist concepts such as the grid, which notably recalls Piet Mondrian's "Broadway Boogie Woogie", Hayakawa extends these explorations to his acrylic paintings.
With seemingly effortless brushstrokes, he captures similar dynamics and energies, transcending the flat surface of the canvas through illusions of depth and space.
Balancing the geometric precision of the grid with a more spontaneous approach, Hayakawa imbues his works with vibrant hues and a sense of vitality.
