Description
Mystica is a sculptural meditation on duality, inviting the viewer into a silent dialogue between two halves of a single face. Sagrasse stages a striking encounter: a matte white feminine visage, pure and serene, cleaved by a sinuous vertical line that unveils a second face in mirror-polished gold. Two presences inhabit the same head — as if the sculpture captured the precise instant when the soul separates from its mask, or when being reveals its inner light.
The artist masterfully plays with the contrast between two finishes that dialogue through their very opposition. The pristine white, smooth and velvety, evokes porcelain, purity, and the contemplative silence of classical busts. The brilliant gold, liquid and reflective, catches every ambient light and transforms the sculpture into a living object whose appearance shifts with each viewing angle. The undulating boundary between the two materials — neither straight nor geometric — suggests the organic flow of a revelation, a tear in the veil of appearances.
Mounted on a sober black base that anchors the composition, the piece commands its space with quiet presence, like a contemporary reliquary.
Mystica draws on a rich iconographic tradition: the Janus figure with two faces, the theatrical masks of comedy and tragedy, Jungian meditations on the persona and the self. But Sagrasse moves beyond these references by proposing a deeply contemporary reading — that of identity as a luminous fracture, where the authentic self (gold, precious, radiant) reveals itself through the cracks of the social self (white, polished, idealized). The gold does not hide; it illuminates. It does not mask; it affirms.
Issued in a limited edition of 299 numbered pieces, is part of Sagrasse's signature practice, which explores the contemporary face through noble materials and meticulously mastered finishes. Cast in resin — a medium that allows for both the precision of detail and the depth of chromatic effects — each sculpture carries the aura of a unique object while remaining accessible to a community of discerning collectors.
Presentation
In each sculpture, Sagrasse places a fragment of humanity, an emotion kneaded into the material, like a breath that crosses time.
Born in 1966 in Macerata, in the Marche region of Italy, Sagrasse has dedicated his life to sculpture for over thirty years. Driven by a constant passion for material and form, he has developed an artistic language that is both contemporary and profoundly human.
His works are exhibited throughout the world, in galleries, private exhibitions, and spaces dedicated to art. This international career reflects a recognition acquired over time, driven by the sincerity and strength of his work.
Sagrasse's creations address contemporary and universal themes : ecology, social ideologies, and the relationship between man and his environment. His sculpture thus becomes a space for reflection, where consciousness and aesthetics, questioning and emotion intertwine.
