Description
This bronze and mammoth bone sculpture explores the dialogue between raw material and worked form. The bone, massive and textured, crowns the whole. Its ocher and earthy tones evoke sedimentation and the passage of time.
The base is composed of elongated metal limbs. These organic appendages stretch downwards with surprising fluidity. They support the mineral weight with an apparent lightness.
The contrast is established between the density of the rock and the finesse of the supports. The artist plays with balance and tension. The piece seems frozen in a movement of descent or growth.
The raw aspect of the materials emphasizes a close link with nature. The dark patina of the metal responds to the organic tones of the stone. This composition invites reflection on gravity and structure.
The whole rests on an invisible base, accentuating the effect of suspension. The curved lines of the supports contrast with the irregular edges of the upper block.
Presentation
Born in the North in 1954, Michel Leclercq is an art teacher in plastic arts.
His work is in recurrence, he likes to question materials in their originality.
He gathers them and uses them as a pool with which he builds his work.
Wood, stone, metal, glass, bone,... become the basis of a vocabulary.
He likes to dialogue with them: they bring him their history which he confronts with his concerns in a stimulating exchange.
He plays encounters with the materials by questioning their organizations, weight, transparencies, balances. The heavy and the fragile are often put to the test: these tensions question his relationship to the living and the dynamic balances that regulate him.
Small or large, his creations fit in the palm of a hand or invest larger spaces.
Michel Leclercq has been exhibiting in France and Belgium for more than twenty years. His monumental works have been the subject of many public commissions and acquisitions visible in public space and among collectors.
He has lived and worked in Brittany since 1976.
