Description
This welded steel sculpture explores the boundary between abstraction and figuration. The structure evokes the silhouette of a fish skeleton, frozen in a circular movement. The metal, worked with precision, draws a spine whose ribs stretch out with regularity.
The play of textures emphasizes the roughness of the material while maintaining a certain visual lightness. The dark shades and metallic reflections accentuate the relief of the piece. The whole rests on a sober base, highlighting the organic curve of the composition.
The artist here transposes their gaze on simple forms to extract a graphic essence. The repetition of lines creates a visual rhythm that guides the eye towards the stylized head of the animal. This piece plays on the contrast between the rigidity of the steel and the fluidity of a form inspired by nature. The balance of volumes brings an architectural dimension to the whole, while the raw details recall the original aspect of the material.
Presentation
Michel Marzin is a contemporary French sculptor.
He engages in metalwork through techniques such as cutting, twisting, welding, and polishing. Once the sculptural volumes are formed, he dedicates himself to improving the texture of the metal in two stages: fusion and polishing. This particular aspect of his process is what he appreciates, as it allows a delicate balance between the shine of the polishing and the raw, gray tones resulting from the fusion of the metal.
It is at this moment that the soul of the sculpture comes to life.
