Description
This bronze sculpture captures the essence of an olive tree with remarkable precision. The metal imitates the roughness of the trunk and the fineness of the branches. Each leaf is worked to reflect the light, creating a play of golden and brown shades. The olives, dark and punctuated, bring a marked visual contrast.
The artists here explore the link between nature and mineral matter. The structure soars upwards with a surprising lightness for the weight of the material used. The black circular base ensures perfect stability while remaining discreet.
This piece combines technical know-how and botanical sensitivity. The realistic rendering of the foliage gives an impression of movement frozen in time. The applied patina highlights the reliefs of the bark and the delicacy of the ramifications. The whole rests on a clean base that highlights the organic silhouette of the tree.
Presentation
Aggelos Panayiotidis (born in 1950 in Amphilohia, Greece) is a renowned sculptor, known for his work with metal and olive trees, a universal symbol of peace and eternity. Honoured by UNESCO for his contribution to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he created his iconic work Olive Tree – Athens' Tree, a bronze and copper monument that has become an Olympic icon and is on permanent display at Technopolis in Athens, with replicas in prestigious institutions such as the Olympic Museum in Lausanne and the United Nations headquarters.
His monumental and poetic sculptures feature in numerous private and public collections in Greece and internationally, including the National Bank of Greece, the Museum of Cycladic Art and the Coca Cola headquarters in Athens and Atlanta. In 2019, he unveiled his largest monumental olive tree at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne.
Through his works, Aggelos Panayiotidis connects nature, culture and the Olympic spirit, offering collectors powerful and timeless pieces.
Filippos Panayiotidis (born in 1994 in Athens) is a young sculptor who continues and renews the artistic legacy of his father, Aggelos Panayiotidis. Trained from childhood in art and metalwork in the family workshop, he also explored wood carving before becoming, in 2019, co-creator of the monumental olive tree unveiled at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne.
The 2020 pandemic marked a creative turning point for him, leading him to develop new forms and a personal language. Since then, he has participated in several exhibitions in Greece, notably at the Art Space Gallery in Santorini (2024), Art Thessaloniki and Art Athina.
His sculptures, often marked by the symbol of the olive tree, celebrate peace, strength and the Olympic spirit, and can now be seen in numerous galleries and museums in Greece, Cyprus and the Netherlands.
