Description
This sculpture explores balance and verticality through an assembly of geometric shapes. The artist superimposes blocks of varying dimensions to create an ascending structure. Each element brings its own chromatic nuance.
The red base, wide and stable, anchors the composition. A green cube rests on this base, whose rough texture marks the contact with the material. A yellow piece then lightens the silhouette before giving way to a dominant blue block.
The top is finished with a small green cube topped with a dark point. This final detail guides the eye upwards and accentuates the vertical tension of the whole. The layers of paint flake in places, revealing the passage of time and the tangible nature of the materials used.
The play of primary and secondary colors structures the space. The rigorous superposition of volumes creates a precise visual rhythm. The artisanal aspect and the irregularities of the surface highlight the authenticity of the manual work. The object presents itself as a modern totem, where the simplicity of forms meets a colorful and contrasting palette.
Presentation
By observing the work of Jaume Millet (Barcelona, 1958), one might first think that he is an artist dedicated to recycling old wood, glass, and fragments of ruins. However, this reading only partially accounts for his work. For Millet, time constitutes the guiding thread of his entire artistic approach.
The artist turns to the ruins not simply as materials, but as a means of revealing that the viewer is no longer contemporary with the traces they observe — traces that have traversed time to us. These vestiges of a vanished world, detached from their original function and forgotten by history, call upon the viewer and transform them into a witness of a lost time. Through the transparency of the layers of color and glass, this temporal distance becomes perceptible.
His creative process is characterized by the accumulation of layers of paint, as well as by a shift in the conception of time: from an external and chronological reality to an internal and sensory experience.
