The star gazer, 2024

Jose Manuel Solares

Sculpture inspired by the poem "Ecstasy" by Amado Nervo. It is a beautiful reflection on the beauty of life and nature. The author expresses his amazement and admiration for the world around him, from the roses and the auroras to the stars and the sea. Every element of nature seems like a miracle to him, and his desire for immortality reflects his deep connection to all that he observes. The way Nervo intertwines the experience of beauty with spirituality and love is truly moving.

Each gentle rose born yesterday,
each dawn that points between blushes,
leave my soul in ecstasy submerged...
My eyes never tire of looking at
the perpetual miracle of life!

Years ago I contemplate the stars
in the diaphanous Spanish nights
and I find them more and more beautiful.
Years ago that in the sea, with me alone,
of the waves I listen to the quarrels,
and even the wonder of the waves amazes me!

Each time I find Nature
more supernatural, more pure and holy,
For me, all around me, everything is beauty;
and with the same fullness I love
the mouth of the mother when she prays
as the mouth of the child when he sings.

I want to be immortal, with intense thirst,
because it is marvelous the panorama
with which the immense creation offers us;
because each star claims me,
telling me, when shining: “Here one thinks,
also, here one fights, here one loves!"
