Description
Miquel Aparici employs a meticulous assemblage technique to transform discarded wood and metal into a spirited animal figure. The composition relies on a refined simplicity. Clean lines and a balanced silhouette grant the piece an innate elegance.
The body is crafted from a grid of small wooden tiles. These pale segments create a rhythmic texture across the horse's flank. A smooth saddle rests atop the back, adding a touch of narrative grace. The contrast between the light body and the deep reddish-brown tones of the head and tail adds visual depth.
Every element invites close observation. The viewer is encouraged to identify the original fragments of old utensils and found objects that now form a cohesive whole. This interplay between the mundane and the artistic sparks a sense of wonder. The figure stands firmly on a raw wooden plinth. This earthy base grounds the whimsical nature of the creature. The artwork celebrates the beauty of repurposing through a sophisticated, three-dimensional lens. It captures a moment of stillness and strength through the strategic arrangement of geometric wooden blocks.
Presentation
Aparici's work is characterized by simplicity, as most of his pieces gather few elements, resulting in very elegant compositions with simple lines, which, combined with his creativity, give his pieces a great expressive power.
He transforms his drawings into three-dimensional beings, using the technique of assembly with old utensils as well as molds and disused objects made of wood and metal. Since then, he has produced over 350 pieces, representing all kinds of animals of different shapes and sizes, from life-size elephants to tiny insects.
Using the same technique, his sculptures also include musical instruments, rockets, masks and a collection of "secret books". Unusual figures that test our imagination and invite us to discover the elements that make up each piece, in a playful game of observation requiring the complicity of the spectator.
