Description
This contemporary sculpture stages a tilted white pot, suspended in a deliberately improbable position, from which a fluid material with orange-ochre tones flows. The liquid seems to escape naturally from the container before descending in a long vertical stream and forming a bright puddle with irregular contours at its base.
The work captures an extremely precise moment: that of a material being poured. Yet, the movement is totally immobilized. What should be liquid, unstable, and ephemeral becomes a solid and permanent structure. This contradiction is one of the most intriguing elements of the sculpture: the gaze immediately recognizes a familiar phenomenon but finds itself facing a physically impossible situation.
The pot seems to float in space, only connected to its base by the thin flow of material. This construction creates a sensation of fragility and balance. The very marked verticality of the sculpture further accentuates this impression and naturally leads the eye from the container to the puddle.
The ochre color brings a very different personality to this version. Warmer and more mineral, it evokes both terracotta, certain natural pigments, and the tones of the 1970s. Associated with the very pure white of the container, it creates a graphic contrast while remaining particularly elegant.
The glossy finish also plays an important role in the perception of the work. Light reflects on the surface and reinforces the illusion of a fresh material. The stream appears truly wet, while the puddle retains that slightly thick appearance characteristic of paint that has just been poured.
The shape of the container contrasts with that of the material. The pot presents a simple, regular, and industrial silhouette, while the puddle adopts a much freer and organic shape. This opposition between control and accident gives rhythm to the composition.
The work thus détourns an extremely banal object to make it the starting point of an almost surreal scene. The paint pot, normally a simple tool of creation, becomes here a constitutive element of the work. As for the paint, it symbolically leaves the canvas to take possession of the space and become a volume itself.
There is also something very immediate in this sculpture. No complex narrative is necessary to enter the work: the image is recognizable in a few seconds. It is precisely this apparent simplicity that works. It first attracts through its visual illusion, then reveals a more subtle play around the material, gravity, movement, and the creation process.
Both playful, graphic, and poetic, this sculpture finally transforms an everyday gesture into a suspended moment. It gives permanence to what should only last a few seconds and makes a simple flow of paint an astonishing sculptural composition.
Presentation
When metal becomes emotion…
Yannick Bouillault's studio is located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in western France. It is in the face of this vast expanse that he has forged a close connection with creation since a young age. Trained in boilermaking, he first worked as a technician before devoting himself fully to sculpture in 2016, driven by a spontaneous and visceral impulse.
Passionate about materials—mainly steel—and fueled by philosophy, Yannick Bouillault strives to reveal the hidden beauty of metal. With his technical mastery, he transforms this raw, cold material into a vehicle for emotion. Each work is born from a dialogue between reflection and feeling, between tension and calm.
Curious about phenomena and attentive to the energy of the world, he draws inspiration from both movement and absence, from the visible and the invisible. In his work, realism and surrealism intertwine to give birth to sculptures that are both powerful and sensitive. Playing with shapes and colors, he gives metal an unexpected lightness, sometimes even a poetic grace.
A self-taught sculptor, Yannick Bouillault has established himself as a unique voice in contemporary metal. His works, exhibited in France and abroad, now travel the world, driven by a universal emotion.
All of the artist's sculptures are designed and crafted entirely by him. Each piece comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
