Abstract bronze sculpture by French artist Antoine Vidal.

His works in bronze, very often marked by a verticality with totemic accents, reflect an aesthetic pursuit focused on the elegance of lines and forms, and where light plays a vital role. For the artist, each sculpture is multifaceted: it tells a different story whenever you look at it from a different angle. His real aim is to achieve a harmonious visual experience of the work, whatever the angle from which it is viewed.

His work, influenced by design and African arts, is rooted in abstraction, leaving ample room for the viewer's interpretation. The figurative elements that sometimes feed his inspiration fade away, leaving only a subtle imprint. This quest for interpretative freedom makes choosing a title for a work tricky, as it can steer the viewer's interpretation. Where it exists, the title is often linked to an indirect reference, opening up an extra dimension of observation and sparking the imagination.

Antoine Vidal works mainly with bronze, which he appreciates for its nobility, strength and timeless quality. He pays great attention to the choice of patina, favouring discreet hues and occasionally mineral aspects, to blur the perception of the material. The aim is to allow the light to glide over the piece, revealing its fluid, sinuous elegance.

Following a career in music, Antoine Vidal turned to sculpture, which he approaches with the same tireless quest for harmony. He imparts the concept of rhythm into his sculptures, creating a musicality in the taut lines, the interplay of solids and voids, and the breaks and sharp edges. Since 2015, he has exhibited his works at art fairs and in galleries across Europe, and he frequently collaborates with famous interior designers.

Presentation

Antoine Vidal's very first sculpture, “Birth of Chance" was created after returning from a trip to Ivory Coast in 1996. Thereafter, he will devote himself solely to his profession as a musician until 2014, where his passion for sculpture will ultimately establish itself as an absolute vocation.

His inspiration comes from the Primary Arts, African Arts, Design or even Cubism; Antoine has matured for a long time alone his approach and the technical mastery of his artistic exercise. Alternately music composer, record producer and sculptor, Antoine is passionate about art whose signature is distinguished by the fusion of music and sculpture.

Antoine imprints on the raw and mineral matter recurring lines which give his works a rhythm, a musicality and specific forms, as if since his childhood, this unconscious leitmotif had served as a refrain for all his gestures and his artistic productions. “The tightrope walkers", “With you" or “Sophia", original bronze sculptures, are the perfect illustrations of totemic, animal and anthropomorphic forms, fruits of a long passion for black sculptural works worked in an unconventional way.

In his quest for reality, Antoine seeks this anchor point that daring imbalances manage to restore in a glance, a situated temporality, like so many postures in the world. He lives and works in Paris.

The artist collaborates with many renowned interior design firms: Le Berre Vevaud, Damien Langlois Meurinne, Girodroux & Delpy, Jean-Louis Deniot, Wilmotte & Associés and Atelier 27 (for the Hotel Lutetia), Stéphanie Coutas, VP Interiors...
