Spritz II 2014 acrylic on paper mask.

When I first started to show my work I joined a local art group called Untitled Nashville an all volunteer art organization who would put on 4 or 5 pop up shows a year.
One show a year was the Glow (black light theme) show.
Every year I entered I used a different material such as gaffers tape, zip ties, test tube shot glasses and string. After seeing some of art in another show at the gallery the owner of the Main Street Gallery suggested we do an all black light show. So we planned a Benefit “Gleam, An Illuminated Art Show” for the Nashville Classical Charter School using my black lights artworks.
I also made hand painted black light masks for people to buy and wear. This series was completed in 2014.

Michael Grine

United States Born in: 1969 Bestsellers Emerging artists

My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.

Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.

My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
