Description
An object that one would think familiar: an old paint can. But this can isn't simply abandoned there; it's dented, twisted, almost injured. Its metallic surface, whitened by time, still bears the marks of its use: scratches, chips, scars. And yet, what strikes one first is the flow of brilliant blue that crosses its walls. The paint seems to have burst forth, to have escaped, like a breath of life overflowing from its iron prison.
Beneath the pot, a puddle spreads, motionless. It mimics the fluidity of a spilled liquid, but is only a frozen material, a trompe-l'oeil that thwarts expectations. Where we believe in the disorder of an accident, we discover the rigor of an artistic gesture. Everything is calculated, suspended, stopped in an eternal moment.
The contrast is striking: the brutality of the crushed metal contrasts with the softness of the paint, its luminous vivacity. Blue, the color of imagination and infinity, flows like a poetic vein in this bruised body. This pot is no longer a simple worn container, it becomes a metaphor: that of an ordinary object transfigured by art, that of beauty born from waste, from the precious extract of the banal.
Thus, the artist stops time. It is no longer a dented pot, it is no longer a studio clumsiness. It is a frozen scene where the trivial rises, where worn matter becomes memory, and where the bright blue radiates like a promise of infinite creation.

When metal becomes emotion…
Yannick Bouillault's studio is located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in western France. It is in the face of this vast expanse that he has forged a close connection with creation since a young age. Trained in boilermaking, he first worked as a technician before devoting himself fully to sculpture in 2016, driven by a spontaneous and visceral impulse.
Passionate about materials—mainly steel—and fueled by philosophy, Yannick Bouillault strives to reveal the hidden beauty of metal. With his technical mastery, he transforms this raw, cold material into a vehicle for emotion. Each work is born from a dialogue between reflection and feeling, between tension and calm.
Curious about phenomena and attentive to the energy of the world, he draws inspiration from both movement and absence, from the visible and the invisible. In his work, realism and surrealism intertwine to give birth to sculptures that are both powerful and sensitive. Playing with shapes and colors, he gives metal an unexpected lightness, sometimes even a poetic grace.
A self-taught sculptor, Yannick Bouillault has established himself as a unique voice in contemporary metal. His works, exhibited in France and abroad, now travel the world, driven by a universal emotion.
All of the artist's sculptures are designed and crafted entirely by him. Each piece comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
