The term panorama, from the Greek "pan" meaning "all" and "horama" meaning "the spectacle", originally referred to a large 360-degree painting on the inside wall of a rotunda, giving the illusion of reality through perspective and trompe-l'oeil effects. This circular painting, which absorbs the viewer into the heart of the scene depicted thanks to its circularity and special lighting, was invented by the British painter Robert Barker, who later patented his invention.
Soon after the invention of photography in the 19th century, photographers were eager to capture cities and natural landscapes in panoramas, which they made by placing several daguerreotypes side by side.
Panoramic art has obviously evolved since then, but whether vertical or horizontal, panoramas offer us a spectacular, breathtaking and unobstructed view of a city or natural landscape.
Whether it's a softly lit landscape, a panoramic view from a skyscraper, the seashore or the Asian highlands, our photographers use their wide angle lenses to perfection to produce exceptional photos. Painters also take us on a journey and offer us a viewpoint that is often impossible to approach. Artsper introduces you to a few artists who go beyond the physical limits and, thanks to their unique sensibility, produce works and unique pieces that will give you wings. Let's see which panoramic work could seduce you!
