Description
Captured at one of Africa's most celebrated contemporary museums, "Zeitz" is an award-winning contemporary photograph from Mario Tarantino's "Scale of Space" series, a body of black and white photographs exploring the structures we create and how we shape and are shaped by them. The work has received numerous international awards and is already held in private collections.
Two monumental geometric windows, futurist and commanding, dominate the composition. A pair of eyes looking both outward and inward, they give the space its singular presence. A solitary figure stands in contemplation before them, the polished concrete floor creating a perfect mirror of the space above, the real and the reflected coexisting in perpetual duality.
This fine art architectural photograph is giclée printed with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a 308gsm acid and lignin-free 100% cotton paper, selected by Mario for its exceptional tonal range and pictorial depth. Its smooth matte surface reproduces the bold geometric forms, the deep shadows and the subtle nuances of the reflection with exceptional clarity. Each part of the printing process is carried out under the watchful eye of a master printer, ensuring a museum grade artwork of enduring quality.
Before leaving the studio, Mario gives each artwork his undivided attention, naming, numbering and hand-signing each one. Part of a limited edition of only 20, each piece is accompanied by a signed and stamped certificate of authenticity.
Presentation
Mario Tarantino's distinctive contemporary photography is expressed through his use of negative space, minimalist compositions, and striking contrasts. His relentless pursuit of the surreal allows him to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, creating captivating visuals that offer moments of aesthetic escapism. Working primarily in monochrome, his images are bold yet balanced, creating a visual language that has earned him numerous international awards, including multiple recognitions as Photographer of the Year.
Exhibited in cities such as Tokyo, Budapest, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Athens, his work has reached a global audience while also becoming part of both corporate and private collections worldwide. His artistic vision resonates strongly with photography collectors who seek not only technical excellence but the ability of an image to linger, to suggest, and to evoke.
His artistic perspective unfolds across three main genres—architecture, landscape, and street photography each approached in a purist manner, using minimal elements in seeking to capture the sublime through simplicity. Much of his work is created under low light conditions, where the soft illumination gives rise to evocative imagery with a futuristic atmosphere that has become his hallmark.
His fascination with the interplay of light and shadow, texture, tone, and form is reflected in every piece, revealing his profound love of aesthetic photography. Mario uses his camera as a painter does a brush, not only to capture an image but to convey an idea, an inner vision or share their unique sense of beauty.
