Description
This artwork features a dynamic juxtaposition between two figures. On the right, a figure in vibrant yellow leaps energetically across the canvas, embodying movement and fluid grace. The elongated, outstretched limbs suggest freedom and exuberance. In contrast, to the left stands a smaller figure dressed in muted pink stripes, holding a red cloth. This figure's static posture serves as a grounding counterpoint to the lively jumper. The sparse background enhances the focus on the contrasting dynamics and colors of the characters. The simplicity in the composition highlights the dialogue between motion and stillness, creating a captivating visual narrative that engages the viewer's imagination.
Presentation
Sa Hara is a Korean artist born in 1975 who lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. She is graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration at Dongguk University. Through Physical Theatre, the artist explores how characters reflect one another, expressing freedom and imagination through bodily performance. With a keen interest in the movement of the human body, observations are transformed into unique works that convey the unrestricted freedom of the mind. Each work contains a narrative, featuring characters and networks of relationships. These relationships are not confined by social or legal structures but instead reflect a worldview of relative freedom. Using the non-verbal language of bodily movement, the characters perform as if on stage, reflecting each other, becoming aspects of one another, and giving rise to thoughts and actions, thus existing through each other and forming the whole. The artist draws inspiration from human movement, real-life stories of relationships, fictional novels, and videos on Instagram and YouTube. Plants, books, music, dance, and various forms of art also provide intellectual stimuli, which are combined with imagination to create the works.
