Biografie
Joaquín Capa is a radically abstract artist whose work excludes any figuration, emphasising colour, form and space. The distribution of the parts in his works can create a conflict in the viewer, at once dissonance and consonance. He studied at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes in Madrid, and also pursued studies in Philosophy in Rome and Madrid, Architecture in Madrid and Sociology of Art in Paris. He received a grant from the Juan March Foundation (1975-1976) and another from the Ministry of Culture (1983-1984). He maintains a close relationship with India, where he was a visiting professor at the University of Baroda in 1983, 1989 and 1990 and won the Prize at the 1st Bhopal International Biennial. His work is held in museums and collections including the Museo de Arte Abstracto in Cuenca, the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Museo del Ferrocarril in Madrid, the Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes in Santander, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.
