Born in: 1970

United States

Born in 1970 in Washington, Kolé, her real name is Mylène Collet, is an American visual artist, she lives in the South of France. Kolé developed her artistic style through contact with other painters. She realized her first works and research in Shlomo Levy's studio in 1990, it was a crucial step for Kolé, who proves herself in painting at that very moment. She was selected at the Salon de Montrouge to represent France, which was a real stepping stone for her. She learned a lot from this new experience and decided to head for Camargue and join Pierre-Marie Brisson's studio in 2005, and then came back to U.S.A in 2009 to San Francisco, closer to her origins. Kolé offers a true journey with her paintings. Her father being in the marines gave her a passion for adventures and evasions. Through his travel stories about high seas in Africa or Pacific islands, he nurtured her imagination. An inheritance which encouraged the artist to be extremely open minded, she is particularly sensitive to her encounters with others. Kolé's work leans a lot on human relationship and interactions. Her work is based on collective memory, marked by Man and his traces on Earth. She paints in a very intuitive and impulsive manner. She highlights the present moment, as opposed to a constant flight from the uncertain future. Her paintings depict phantasmagorical beings, white meandering souls. White is a very symbolic and revealing color for Kolé. She also showcases vegetable elements and nature, which set up roots in collages and paper assemblies, intertwined with Indian ink and acrylic. Today, the artist's work is presented in several European galleries.
