Abstracción lírica

El arte abstracto, tal y como lo conocemos hoy en día, tiene sus raíces en el siglo XIX, cuando los artistas empezaron a privilegiar la imaginación y el inconsciente sobre el arte puramente representativo. Durante este periodo, el arte dejó de idealizar los temas para centrarse en sus cualidades emotivas y sensoriales. Los artistas de principios del siglo XX llevaron la abstracción un paso más allá: en lugar de tratar de representar la realidad tangible de forma abstracta, empezaron a crear obras completamente desvinculadas del mundo visible. La primera "verdadera" artista abstracta conocida es la pintora sueca Hilma af Klint, que realizó una serie de obras monumentales basadas en el espiritualismo. Otros artistas abstractos influyentes del siglo XX son Piet Mondrian, Vassily Kandinsky y Mark Rothko.

En la actualidad, artistas contemporáneos de todo tipo continúan el legado de estos creadores, utilizando el color, la línea y la forma para producir obras abstractas.
