Presentation

Miquel Ponce's work focuses on painting. His work is based on conceiving painting as a residue, as a mark, a sign, which is why we find in it evidence of its deterioration and manipulation. Factors such as chance and time are present in his work, which reflects on the production of images and on the crisis of visuality, seeking new paths for pictorial production. His works aim to approach painting in a tactile way, questioning representation through the use of materials, which lead him to understand painting as something physical and which establishes a formal play with its own constructive elements. In his work, the abstract image is presented as a residue of his own act of creation, where the different processes used in the execution of the works turn painting into a residual image that wants to speak both of our time and of itself. His most recent work is close to currents such as monochrome painting, with a particular interest in the idea of self-representation, and approaching painting from an installation and objectual perspective.

Miquel Ponce (València, 1997) has studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master in Artistic Production at the Universitat Politècnica de València, and has completed an Erasmus scholarship at the Technological University Dublin (TUD).

Some of his projects have been shown in spaces such as the Museum of the University of Alicante, the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid or the Reales Atarazanas in Valencia. He has also collaborated with galleries such as Galería Fran Reus (Palma de Mallorca), Galería Blanca Soto (Madrid) and Volta Art Gallery (Valencia), among others.

He has participated in several residencies, including the Residence for artistic creation and research of the MUA, Alicante (2020) and the artistic production grant of the BilbaoArte Foundation (2021). He has been awarded several prizes and grants, among them the VEGAP Creation Grants (2021), has been a member of PAM!PAM!21 (2022), and has received awards such as the painting prize in the IV Painting Competition of Castellón (2019) and in the Painting Competition of Quart de Poblet (2022), as well as honourable mentions in the XXIX Salvador Soria Painting Competition of Benissa (2021) and selections in prizes such as the XXVII Painting Prize Ciutat d'Algemesí (2021) or in the Ibercaja Prize for Young Painters (2019).
