Description
In Barbe Rouge, Christelle Lenci revisits the dark fairy-tale archetype through her signature style of dense, flowing linework. The composition intertwines two central figures — a bearded man draped in crimson and a woman kneeling before him — within a swirling mass of ornamental, organic forms. The background, filled with labyrinthine textures and ghostlike faces, seems to breathe and pulse, fusing the characters with the psychological landscape that surrounds them.
The crimson tones emphasize both passion and menace, while the delicate pencil work gives the piece a haunting intimacy. Lenci's world is one where myth, eroticism, and subconscious tension collide — her Barbe Rouge becomes less a literal narrative than a symbolic encounter between dominance and surrender, fear and fascination.
Through her intricate web of lines and shadows, Lenci transforms the fairy tale into a dreamlike, almost hallucinatory scene — a vision of inner turmoil and forbidden allure.
