Presentation

After his academic training, in which he learned a high level of anatomical knowledge as well as an in-depth look at art, Vandaele went in search of his own style which was therefore heavily influenced by 19th century expressionism. Besides the different forms of emergence of contemporary expressive dance is also a source of considerable inspiration. For this reason Vandaele prefers to personify human stature in her bronzes. He chooses to fix expressions in his creations: despair, astonishment, triumph, aggression, pride, discouragement, anguish, resignation, tranquility. All these expressions make his figures speak, they bring them a soul of life. The sculptor always works alone. He refuses to use a "living model". He nests solitary in his studio and drags himself in the skin of his sculpture so that only his hands and his soul constitute the tool for his new creation. But alongside the creator of his figures, Vandaele is also the craftsman who closely follows the process of melting and puts the finishing touches to complete his sculptures in the brass foundry. He knows his job. Vandaele abandons the new avant-garde or distances itself from the mutually competitive avant-garde. He does not convert to the academic art of the past, but he tries to give a size to contemporary life or to the feeling of existence. Through the instinctive labor of nature he seeks to chain the layman as well as the so-called connoisseur of art. He tries to touch the spectator in his soul and he hopes in this way to stigmatize his work as a heritage for our world. Because art cannot be modern, art is eternal.
