Presentation

Chantal de Block is a Belgian artist born in 1959 in Etterbeek, one of the municipalities of Brussels. She began sculpture after meeting Robert Sutter, another Belgian artist, who became her husband in 1978. Together, they opened a lost wax foundry and worked for many years to create bronzes for other artists. Today, they devote their time for their own personal work.

Chantal de Block's world is filled with colored little girls and animals, which resemble those in children books. Dreamy, cheerful, playful, her « Petites », are captured and show us a glimpse of a happy and colorful universe, where play is the key word. A part of her work is focused on the theme of Naiad or Nereid, these pretty aquatic creations like dreamy mermaids. Combining, ceramic, pearls, glass paste and bronze shells, Chantal de Block creates appealing childlike and feminine characters.

Several of her sculptures are made public, acquired by the Belgian and Italian municipality. They are rather gigantic and not the little characters, which she usually adores. Chantal de Block has exhibited in Belgium, France, Spain and Netherlands. Her work is exhibited permanently at galerie Art Espace, in Nantes (France).
