Romaric Bidias

Cameroon • 1995

Biography

A self-taught artist filled with boundless energy and a great sense of humor, Bidias offers committed paintings on the theme of the English-speaking crisis.

Numerous messages denouncing the policy currently carried out in the provinces of North West and South West Cameroon can be read in his works.

With undeniable talent and contagious vitality, he takes us into his daily life. Admirer of the consecrated pope of contemporary art JM Baskiat, Bidias pays homage to him by recalling numerous erratic writings and the superpositions of frenetic graffiti.

He lives and works in Buea in the English-speaking area of the country.

Artist Statement: “My artwork portrays how our personalities can impact our society. Nowadays everything that happens around us in the media, lifestyle, culture, is influenced by our identity"
