Geo Ripley was born in Caracas in 1950, the son of Dominican exiles. A graduate in Plastic Arts at the UASD, he subsequently studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. His conceptual work seeks to integrate the magical and symbolic elements of African, Pre-Columbian, Antillean, and Latin American cultures in Art as a rite of passage, as a search for a birth.
One of the first visual artists to take on installation and performance, he created his first installation in Santiago de los Caballeros in 1972. He is the only Dominican who participated with a work (the PIJAO video) in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the MOMA in New York (1980).
